Scott M. Goldstein, MD Completes National Leadership Program
Scott M. Goldstein, MD, an Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic surgeon from the Philadelphia area, completed a year-long Leadership Development Program on October 15, 2019. Established by the American Academy of Ophthalmology over two decades ago, the LDP program guides about 20 individuals from around the world per year in the skills and mind set it takes to be a health care leader for the future. Dr Goldstein participated on behalf of the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology which leads the efforts for safe and effective eye care and surgery in Pennsylvania.
As the population of the United States grows and ages, there is an ever-increasing demand for eye surgeons to meet these health care needs.
“It’s all about advocating for patient safety,” Goldstein notes. “People highly value their eyesight and both the Pennsylvania and American Academies of Ophthalmology are dedicated to ensuring that patients across our state have access to properly trained surgeons such that they can maintain healthy vision throughout their lifetime.”
Dr. Goldstein traveled to Chicago, Washington DC and San Francisco in 2018 and 2019 to attend multiple seminars and meet with the current leadership of the AAO in addition to completing a year-long research project. Dr. Goldstein practices Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery as part of Vantage EyeCare and holds teaching positions at both The University of Pennsylvania’s Scheie Eye Institute and Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
With member physicians throughout the Commonwealth, the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology PAO strives to be the voice of ophthalmology; making efforts to ensure quality eye care on the legislative and regulatory fronts, while building and maintaining relationships with major insurance carriers within the state.
